Directing Diane von Furstenberg

Working with icons is always a little different. I recently had the opportunity to direct a video for Diane von Furstenberg as part of a project for JPMorgan.

When you’re filming someone who has spent decades building one of the world’s most recognizable personal brands, you quickly realize the normal rules of directing don’t quite apply. Diane has an unmistakable presence, instinct, and sense of timing. Rather than forcing a performance, the role became creating the right environment for her personality and confidence to come through naturally on camera.

The result was a video that felt authentic, elegant, and effortless, very much in line with who she is. It was also a reminder that sometimes the best directing comes from knowing when to step back and follow the energy already in the room.

Special thanks to AsiaWorks Television for bringing me onto the project.
